Tuesday, April 18, 2023
5:00pm Social Hour | 6:00pm Dinner | 7:00pm
Dr. Margaret M. McGuinness will speak on her new biography of St. Katharine Drexel, which moves beyond the story of the heiress’s individual life devoted to God and shines a light on the work that she did, assisted by the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. It ties Drexel’s sainthood to the sisters’ ministries to Black and Indigenous communities, bringing critical perspective to this important ministry in the church.
Dr. Margaret M. McGuinness is professor emerita of religion at La Salle University. In addition to her new biography of Drexel (Paulist Press, 2023), she is also author of Called to Serve: A History of Nuns in America (New York University Press, 2013) and co-editor of The Cambridge Companion to American Catholicism (Cambridge University Press, 2021).
