<p class="p1">In this talk, Dr. Dawn Eden Goldstein, will speak on her <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Father-Ed-Story-Spiritual-Sponsor-ebook/dp/B0BFG82QLZ?ref_=ast_author_mpb" target="_blank" rel="noopener">award-winning biography of Father Edward Dowling</a>, SJ (1898-1960), who rescued Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill Wilson from debilitating depression and gave him the spiritual guidance he needed to bring AA to international prominence.<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>Although Dowling was not an alcoholic himself, he came to devote his ministry to helping people in recovery, including those in troubled marriages and those suffering from nervous disorders.<span class="Apple-converted-space">   </span></p>
<h4 class="p1">About the Speaker</h4>
<p class="p1">Dr. Dawn Eden Goldstein, JCL, STD, is the award-winning author of Father Ed: The Story of Bill W.’s Spiritual Sponsor. Born in New York City, she began her working life as a rock-and-roll historian. In 2016, she became the first woman to earn a doctorate in sacred theology from the University of St. Mary of the Lake.<span class="Apple-converted-space">  </span>She then went on to receive a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University of America. She lives in Washington DC and has taught at universities and seminaries in the United States, England, and India. She is currently writing a biography of Father Louis J. Twomey, SJ.</p>

<p class="p1">Dr. Ramon Luzarraga is an associate professor and department chair of the Department of Theology, Religious Studies, and Philosophy at St. Martin’s University in Lacey, Washington. Over the past ten years, he has also worked as a member of the Caribbean Theology Today group. He currently co-authoring a book with Dr. Anna Perkins on Caribbean theology from a Roman Catholic point of view to be published by Brill.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>

<p class="p1">Holy Redeemer Church in Philadelphia has the distinction of being the first Catholic church in the Western hemisphere built for Chinese people. Dedicated in 1941, the church recently celebrated its 75h anniversary. In this talk, Father Thomas Betz, OFM Cap will call attention to Holy Redeemer’s remarkable history and its contributions to Philadelphia’s Chinese American community.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span></p>
<h4 class="p1"><b>About the Speaker</b></h4>
<p class="p1">Father Thomas Betz, a native of Western Pennsylvania, is a Capuchin priest and pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church in Philadelphia. He had earlier served as parochial vicar of the parish from 1991 to 1995, and from 1991 to 2016, he served as the Coordinator of the Chinese Apostolate for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which included responsibility for Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and School.</p>
