The American Catholic Historical Society takes pride in bestowing upon Bud and Eileen Hansen its highest honor, the Barry Award. As the twenty-seventh recipients of the Award, the Hansen’s commitment to Church, country and family embody the exceptional qualities the Award was established to recognize.
Bud, after graduating from La Salle College High School, where he is now a distinguished member of its Hall of Fame, and La Salle University, on whose board of Trustees he serves, married Eileen Held in 1965. Together, they have four children, Jill, Bud III, Stephanie and Elyse. They are further blessed with eleven grandchildren, four of which are quadruplets.
Bud’s business acumen is legendary. He founded Hansen Properties, Inc. that has successfully developed and managed properties in both Pennsylvania and Florida, including golf course communities and office buildings. Hansen Properties is a recognized leader in the hospitality industry and locally noted for Normandy Farm Hotel and Conference Center and Blue Bell Country Club, located in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. Bud has been honored for his talents and successes as a premier developer in both Pennsylvania and Florida, but he proudly recognizes that the attractiveness of his finished products is a result of Eileen’s interior design talents and eye for details. They make a great team!
Bud and Eileen are members of the Philadelphia Chapter of Legatus, which Bud founded and was its President. Bud was a founding Steering Committee member of both the Papal Foundation and, with Eileen, the Catholic Leadership Conference.
Bud and Eileen have contributed their services to the community in important and diverse endeavors. Bud has held leadership roles with the CYO and the Catholic Campaign for America; in education on various boards at La Salle College High School, La Salle University, Villanova University, Gwynedd-Mercy College, Ave Maria University and has been awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters degree from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary; in healthcare as Crusade Chairman of the American Cancer Society and the Board of Directors of the Respiratory Disease Syndrome Foundation.
Eileen and Bud have worked together tirelessly for many Catholic causes, such as Co-Chairs of the Catholic Heritage Center, the Ryan Memorial Library Fund at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, St. Ignatius Nursing Home and have been recognized as recipients of the CYO Hall of Fame Award. Bud and Eileen are Knight Commander and Lady of The Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre and Knight and Lady of The Sovereign Military Order of Malta. They are Stewards of St. Peter and Stewards of Saint John Neumann. Bud is also a Knight Commander of the Order of St. Gregory the Great.
The American Catholic Historical Society is proud to honor Bud and Eileen Hansen for their extraordinary service to the Church, to our Community and for their exemplary lives of commitment to excellence in all that they do.
