Donna Crilley Farrell is vice president of corporate communications for Independence Blue Cross. In this role she oversees communications and brand strategy as well as media and public relations.
Before taking on her current role as vice president at Independence, Ms. Farrell served as the executive director of the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015, the global event that brought Pope Francis and visitors from around the world to Philadelphia in September 2015.
Ms. Farrell began her career as a television reporter and anchor for several stations, including WB17 in Philadelphia. She later spent 14 years at the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. In 2005, she was named the director of communications for the Archdiocese, a role she held until 2012 when she first joined Independence as manager of external affairs. In her role in external affairs, she oversaw Independence’s public relations efforts and coordinated national media coverage.
In May 2013, Ms. Farrell received the papal honor, Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (Cross for the Church and Pontiff), for her service to the Church. In 2015, she received the Sourin Award of the Catholic Philopatrian Literary Institute, and was a Delaware County Catholic Schools Hall of Fame Honoree. Ms. Farrell was named Delaware County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in 2015 as well.
Ms. Farrell is a graduate of Saint Francis of Assisi Elementary School in Springfield, Delaware County, and Cardinal O’Hara High School. She earned her undergraduate degree in communications from the University of Pennsylvania. She and her husband Michael and their twelve-year-old twins, Christina and Connor, live in Saint Kevin Parish in Springfield, Delaware County.
